I woke up at 5.30 this morning so you can tell I’m excited about the start of my vacation!
I downloaded some music for my MP3 player and yesterday I went through my Ao3 history and downloaded some fics I still need to read. I found that if I download them in EPUB I can easily read them on my E-reader and so that and my iPod are the only devices I’m taking with me!
No laptop, no phone, no Ipad…. Part of me is a bit nervous as always at the start of my digital detox but I know my brain really needs it. Just the fact that I am nervous says a lot about how much we rely and depend on devices like this.
I’m really looking forward to taking a break. I find when I’m home it’s just soooo easy to take the laptop and scroll through YouTube and Tumblr and none of my other hobbies ( like cardmaking/diamond painting/writing/….) get done. I do love social media but at the same time I kinda hate it?
Always seeing other people do better then you can be hard. Seeing their photos of their perfect homes and realizing I still don’t have my own space at age 30 is kinda sad. Or seeing the photos of fabulous trips and not being able to go there myself does make me jealous/angry.
Even though there isn’t a need to be jealous or angry. I do have a home, my parents home, I have warm water, food, electricity, I have the ability to go to Spain for a vacation, I’m able to save up money for later. I have a good relationship with my parents and they still haven’t kicked me out yet so 👍.
I have a lot to be grateful for but social media tends to cloud that up with things that always can be better/bigger…. That’s why going on vacation without any devices is such a blessing.
I do think I will take my old camera because @chained-to-the-mirror asked for some pictures of where I’m staying and you can’t go online with that device so.
So, if you don’t hear from me for a while, it’s because I’m enjoying my vacation, finding some time to relax and spending quality time with my mom ( dad and the dog are staying home because dad doesn’t like going on a long trip).
Have a good week!
(I’m just going to tag a few people that maybe would like to know that I’m gone for a while.)
